So as mid-January approaches, how are your resolutions for 2017 going? Whilst everyone else seems to concentrate on what they’re eating and how much exercise they’re taking, this year I’m focusing on my own home & interiors resolutions.
As an interior designer, people often say that my own house must be “amazing” and it’s true that I’m incredibly lucky to live in a contemporary new house that we built, with a view overlooking the creek.
But like the proverbial cobbler’s children, getting around to finishing off my own projects can be hard, when there’s always work for clients that needs to take priority… but I’m determined to change that this year.
My first success came last weekend when I finished the curtains for our own bedroom! My inspiration came from a set of four small framed pictures that we’ve had for a long time. Painted on silk, they are tiny vignettes of landscape scenes in delicate shades of pink, mauve and deep inky blue.
Finding a gorgeous floral fabric from Designers Guild that picked up on these colours and had a lovely clean white background spurred me on. Keeping everything else very simple, I used a Wave heading on a Silent Gliss Metroflat track.
As I was hanging the curtain, the sun came out, lifting my spirits even further – it won’t be too long before Spring is on its way and already I’ve crossed a long overdue job off my ‘To Do’ list – hooray! What needs finishing off on your house this year?
